Best, freshest burger you'll ever taste. Fresh ground sirloin, buttered bun, no frills. Other than the chowder, rest of menu is pedestrian, but it's all about the burger - simply done and perfect. A can't miss for local burger enthusiasts.

Vintage New England. Plain, simple food with a feel for yesterday, except when it comes to freshness. The burger's here are freshly ground on premise and you can really taste the difference. It's old, worn and indicative of a lot of great meals served. Simpson Spring beverages, too. Remember those!!!

must disagree with the last writer! I've been eating here since the 60's and while the interior is dated, it is not greasy or dirty, it's vintage for goodness sake! and, I doubt you will ever find a better burger freshly ground in front of you for the modest price. eating here is genuine, New England, no frills and basic. but, don't let that deter the hearty appetites from sitting at the counter for the best chowder and burgers! bar none, the cooking here is like Grandma's - maybe better! this place is a diamond in the rough for looks but for food quality, it's tops.

This place is just plain sad. Nearly every surface of the interior has a small gloss of grease that has piled up over the years. It smells like your grandmother's house and looks like your great-great grandmothers. From the second I walked into the door I was sorry that I was paying real money to such a travesty of a restaurant. Just plain disgusting. The people were really nice but I'm sorry just nasty.
