| Didn't have any reservations on Valentine's Day. Drove down the mile in Freeport and every restaurant was PACKED. 42 was empty, only 2 tables filled. Asked the people at one of the table if the food was okay, and they said it was wonderful, so we took a chance. The food was wonderful. We've been back 2 more times since. The food is always great, the service personnel very attentive, and the price is moderate. We've eaten at every restaurant on the Woodcleft Canal, and this is one of the best in quality, and the best for value and service. |

| We ordered a bunch of apps. Baked Clams: chopped, a Portbello Mushroom topped with crabmeat, and their Crabcake. The baked clams were tasty and the clam pieces were and juicy. All too often, subpar chefs dry the clams into rubber. Not here. The crabcake was excellent. It was done nicely, not overly fried, and was one of the better ones I had lately. Dessert was chocolate dish...the name escapes me...but it was lovely...like the interior of a truffle. Very rich, decadent and really a nice topper to a good meal. Evidently the chef is one of the newest on the Mile, and definitely worth your time. We will be returning to sample the very interesting fare that was on the menu now that we know they are good. While other places, some with horrific food, sit crowded and with waits, this little gem had very little wait, and is very worth your while. 42 Woodcleft is a keeper. |
